Top 10 Travel Tips for 2024
Time has become our worst enemy, the pace of life we are getting used to is increasingly preventing us from enjoying the small but most important things. We stop appreciating a good chat with friends or a dinner with our parents. And what about traveling, we go from one place to another looking at places from our cell phone and trying to take as many selfies as possible without seeing the world through our eyes.
Carl Honoré, a Scottish-born writer, historian, traveller and ambassador of the slow movement and tourism , shares 10 tips for making the most of our trips, living fully in the “here and now”, savouring the moments instead of portraying them and enjoying the trip without returning exhausted from our holidays.

Enjoy the destiny slowly
Take advantage of every detail and every place you go, don’t rush. There’s no waste in going slow, it won’t make you more bored or unproductive, but on the contrary, it will give you a more lively and realistic perspective of the destination.
Value what is important
Take advantage of the opportunity to discover what really matters: enjoy the architecture, the people, the landscapes, the nature and everything that is truly worthwhile. Forget about staying in a hotel or partying too much, that will never enrich your trip.

Disconnect
Don’t experience a trip under the pressure of having to answer calls, emails, text messages, inboxes or WhatsApp messages. This will only take away from the experience and, however small, you will miss out on interesting details.
Don’t google the destination before
Nothing is the same since Google’s influence on vacation planning emerged. The surprise of witnessing something we have never seen before is diminished when we arrive at our destination knowing every detail and experience we will have.
Talk to the locals
No one can tell you more about a destination than the locals themselves. Find them and have a chat with them; see the place through their words, they know better than any tourist guide what you need to know.
Let yourself be surprised
Don’t go in with a preconceived idea, don’t criticize what you see, don’t over-analyze; it’s about behaving like children, when everything was incredible and we just let ourselves be carried away by our emotions.
Get lost
With due caution, do not go with forced itineraries that force you to follow a set route. This will take away the touch of adventure that every trip needs. Someone once said, “getting lost is the best way to find yourself” and the same thing happens when traveling. Who knows what wonderful place you might discover?

Learn
Learn from as many people as you can and as much as you can. The lived experiences that are retained in memory are ultimately what are left over from travels.
Enjoy the small things
Mass tourism has evolved the way we do tourism and has put everything in a huge perspective. Lots of people, big hotels, big buildings, big monuments. Sometimes this is not as worthwhile as eating in a restaurant, walking through a park or seeing a street artist, in other words, those little things that make your life bigger.
Travel light
Travel with as little luggage as possible, but also travel with a light soul, an open mind and an expectant heart. This way everything will taste better.
