Unexpectedly, Donald Trump defeats Kamala Harris in a landslide and becomes the new President of the United States.
Back for a second term in the White House
Trump is the 47th President of the US
The Republican candidate won the majority of key states and obtained the largest number of electoral votes
Donald Trump delivered his victory speech for the 2024 US presidential election from his campaign headquarters in Florida on Wednesday morning. He will return to the White House for a second term as the 47th president of the United States.
After the polls closed, the Republican candidate had obtained, at the time of writing, 266 electors, ensuring his victory over his opponent, Kamala Harris, who obtained the vote of 195 electors. It should be noted that throughout the night, the majority of the media had predicted Trump’s victory, until the final announcement.
In his victory speech from his campaign headquarters in Florida, the president-elect declared: “We made history, we are going to heal America. This is the greatest political movement this country has ever seen. There is a lot to fix – and that is what we are going to do. We are going to fix our border, we made history and overcame the odds. Look what happened, isn’t it crazy? This is a political victory the likes of which this country has never seen. I will fight for every citizen, for your families and your future. I will not rest until I have a safe and prosperous America – it will be America’s golden age.“
He added: “I hope to make you proud. Know that you voted not just for a president, but for this wonderful group of people. Our record in the Senate is incredible – no one expected it. You have extraordinary senators, including new ones. We will also continue to control the House of Representatives. Thank you to Mike Johnson, he is doing a remarkable job. Thank you also to my wife Melania and my entire family.“
“We are going to transform this country into something very special. It is the best country in the world, we will do our best. The situation is bad, we have to close the borders and make sure that people enter the country legally, only legally,” added the new President of the United States.
Trump also said: “In my time in office, we haven’t had any wars. They (Democrats) said – ‘He’s going to start wars’, I’ve only stopped wars. We defeated ISIS in record time, I’m not going to start wars, I want to end wars (…) Nothing will stop me from keeping my word to you, the people. It’s time to unite, to leave division behind.“
Trump won Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia and 3 out of 5 electoral votes in Nevada – key states of great importance. At the same time, Republicans managed to obtain a majority in the Senate after 4 years, with 51 seats – which will strengthen the power of the president-elect.
In the Democratic camp, disappointment is great, the campaign headquarters in Washington begins to empty as the final results arrive. In the early hours of the morning, it was announced at the headquarters that the vice president would not make a speech – and would make a statement in the afternoon.
